The paper presents the new aspects of structure and kinetics of alcohol dehydrogenase. The differences in substrate specificity of isoenzymes are broadly discussed. The newly discovered gastric alcohol dehydrogenase is also mentioned.

Serum tumor markers: CEA, CA 19-9, AFP, TPS may be helpful in early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, in the initial assesment of the extent of the disease, and in monitoring of the tumor growth or tumor volume reduction once cancer has been diagnosed and treatment started. Recent studies have focused on a new substances (candidates for tumour markers) of colorectal cancer.

Serum tumour markers may be helpful in early diagnosis of lung cancer, in the initial assesment of the extent of the disease, and in monitoring of the tumour growth or tumour volume reduction, once cancer has been diagnosed and treatment started. Recent studies have focused especially ? cytokines as a new group of tumour markers.

Hematopoietic growth factors belong to the family of glycoproteins responsible for regulaton, differentiation and proliferation of myelopoietic cells. In this paper the role of these factors in regulation of teh function of pathogenic cells (granulocyte, monocyte, macrophage) is discussed on the basis of literature data.

The paper presents the molecular and kinetics aspects of aldehyde dehydrogenase polymorphism. The role in acetaldehyde metabolism and differences in substrate specificity of isoenzymes are discussed.
