Phase relations up to the solidus line in part of the Sb-Zn-O system have been investigated over the entire concentration range of the α-Sb2O4-ZnO system in air ( \( P_{O_2 } \) = 0.21 atm) using XRD and DTA/TG. The components of this system in air form ZnSb2O6 and Zn7Sb2O12. The results allow division of the system into three subsystems, i.e. α-Sb2O4-ZnSb2O6; ZnSb2O6Zn7Sb2O12 and Zn7Sb2O12-ZnO. The temperature ranges over which the ZnSb2O6 and Zn7Sb2O12 remain at equilibrium with other solid compounds depend on the gaseous atmosphere. [...]
Można przypuszczać, że czynności precyzyjne ręki wykorzystywane w życiu codziennym i wcześniejszej pracy zawodowej podlegają wolniejszym procesom inwolucyjnym niż ogólna sprawność fizyczna.

The ability to perform exact and precise manual movements plays a crucial role in each man's everyday life often deciding about his/her professional career. The aim of the work is the evaluation of precise motor skills of a hand in elderly women representing different levels of locomotor activity. The investigation comprised 153 students from the University of the Third Age in Wroclaw (35 elderly women with the higher level of activity and 118 elderly women with the lower level of motor activity). In the study on precise motor movements of a hand, the MLS test from the panel of the Vienna Test System was used. The results show that the level of precise motor movements of the hand is good. No differences were observed between the women undertaking regular physical activities. It is assumed that precise hand movements used in everyday life and in the previous profession are subject to slower involution processes than the general physical fitness.
Purpose. Human physical activity is an important component of health and it gains a special significance with age, influencing the quality of life of elderly people. The present study discusses the question of whether the level of physical activity is a sufficient stimulus to evoke positive changes in body composition and bone mineral density in women from the University of the Third Age. Basic procedures. The research was conducted on 90 women aged between 65 and 74, students of the U3A. The subjects were divided into two groups on the basis of the amount of their level of physical activity declared by them in questionnaires (1-2 times a week - low physical activity group; 3 and more times a week - high physical activity group). The following measurements were taken: body weight and body height (on the basis of which the BMI was calculated for each subject), body composition including percent fat and water content as well as the amount of body fat and water, with the aid of Futurex-5000 (NIR technique). Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) was used to measure the bone mineral density (BMD) of the proximal segment of the femoral bone (g/cm2) with the Lunar DPX-plus densitometer. Main findings. Mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation were applied in the statistical analysis. The differences between the variables were analyzed with Student's t-test. Conclusions. The research results imply the necessity of conducting a systematic and thorough analysis of the lifestyle and quality of life of elderly people.
Wstęp. Choroba Parkinsona jest postępującą, przewlekłą, zwyrodnieniową chorobą ośrodkowego układu nerwowego, którą charakteryzuje wiele objawów, m.in. drŜenie spoczynkowe, sztywność, spowolnienie ruchowe, zaburzenie postawy ciała, chodu i równowagi oraz osłabienie siły mięśniowej, przejawiające się ilościową redukcją siły duŜych grup mięśniowych, zarówno tułowia, jak i kończyn dolnych. Cel. Celem pracy stała się więc ocena parametrów siłowo–prędkościowych mięśni kończyn dolnych osób ze stwierdzoną chorobą Parkinsona. Materiał i metody. U wszystkich kobiet wykonano badania czynnościowe mięśni zginaczy i prostowników stawu kolanowego na stanowisku do badań izokinetycznych Mullti Joint 3 firmy Biodex. Rejestrowano: szczytowy moment siły, całkowitą pracę oraz moc przy prędkościach kątowych 60º/s i 180º/s. Wyniki. Kobiety chorujące na chorobę Parkinsona uzyskały ok. 60–70 % wartości szczytowego momentu siły, całkowitej pracy i mocy kobiet zdrowych. Wnioski. Osoby ze stwierdzoną chorobą Parkinsona uzyskują więc statystycznie istotnie niŜsze wartości parametrów siłowo– prędkościowych mięśni działających na stawy kolanowe kończyn dolnych, większy deficyt mięśniowy dotyczy prostowników działających na staw kolanowy, szczególnie w przypadku wyŜszych prędkości kątowych ruchu.

Background. Idiopathic Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive, chronic, neurodegenerative disease of the central nervous system characterised by the following motor signs: rest tremor, rigidity, bradykinesia, stooped posture, gait and balance difficulty, as well as muscle weakness as a quantitative reduction of strength of large muscle groups of the trunk and the lower extremities.Aim. The aim of this research was to determine strength-velocity parameters of lower extremities muscles in persons with Parkinson’s disease.Material and methods. Twenty women divided into two groups were nerolled into the study. The examined group (gr.1) comprised 10 women aged from 65 to 80 years (mean 72) with established diagnosis of PD classified from I to III according to the Hoehn & Yahr scale. The control group (gr.2) -10 healthy women aged from 62 to 84 years (mean 69), the participants of University of III Century, who did not have any neurological diseases that could affect the results of the tests. The Biodex dynamometer was used to measure the peak torque, total work and power of the knee flexors and extensors at two velocities; 60°/s and 180°/s.Results. Peak torque, total work and power in women with PD were on the level of 60–70% of healthy women. Conclusions. Reduction of the evaluated parameters was significantly greater in extensors than in flexors, especially at higher velocity of the movement.
