Type A behavior pattern as a life style (characterized with commitment, realization of the largest number of aims in the shortest time, expressing inclination to compete, strong endeavor to obtain regards and promotion, aggressiveness, impatience, speed, a feel of time pressure, and excessive responsibility) is known to be a risk parameter of somatic illnesses. Main the aim of researches was to qualify a relation between Type A behavior pattern and acceptance of illness in a group of individuals with Graves-Basedow disease. The sample included 70 patients with Graves-Basedow disease and 70 healthy persons. In each group there were 14 men and 56 women. Patients filled in three methods: Framingham Type A Behavior Pattern Measure, Acceptance of Illness Scale and a personal survey. Results do not show any differences between healthy and diseased people in an intensity level of a typical behaviors for Types A behavior pattern. A clinical state of diseased people does not differentiate the level of a typical behaviors for Types A. Type A is connected to functioning in the state of illness which represent the acceptance of illness – the higher a person scores in Type A scale, the more difficulties he or she has in accepting the illness. This relationship applies mainly to the tendency to compete. It appears, that type A behavior pattern does not play the part of a risk predictor in the investigated group, but it is a predictor of functioning in illness representing the acceptance of illness.

A new act about specialization in clinical psychology has functioned in Poland for six years. This article was written to show difficulties, which are caused in practice by this act. These difficulties were discussed from three different points of view, including specialization’s program, placement’s opportunities, and motivation to specialize. This article ends with some suggestions of changes, which may facilitate the process of specialization.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the types of individual behaviors and work related experiences within a group of nurses and to determine the relationship with the strategies used to cope with stress at work. 150 nurses employed in a hospital with an average age of 40.11 were examined. Two research methods were used: 1. Latack Coping Scale – this scale measures five strategies of coping with problems at work, i.e. avoidance-withdrawal, positive thinking, direct action, seeking help and use of alcohol. 2. Behavior Pattern Questionnaire and Work-Related Experience AVEM – Schaarschmidt and Fischer, which describes the eleven manifestations of functioning at work which, in turn, allow a worker to be qualified under one of the four types of work behaviors: Type G – Healthy, type S – Savings, type A – Risk (excessively burdened) and type B – Burned out. The following results were obtained: The Latack scale is a reliable tool for testing work related stress coping strategies within a group of Polish nurses in the domain of the four main strategies: avoidance/resignation, positive thinking, direct action, seeking help. However, the scale of use of alcohol seems to be of little diagnostic utility and therefore the legitimacy of its inclusion in the Polish version of this method should be considered. In the field of behavior and work related experiences the studied nurses differed only in the intensity of the feeling of profession success and did not differ in the applied coping strategies depending on the type of branch in which they serve. The examined nurses differed in behavior and work related experiences because of the frequency of use of certain work related stress coping strategies.

W prezentowanej pracy podjęto zagadnienie występowania osobowości stresowej typu D w grupie przewlekle chorych w odniesieniu do wybranych aspektów funkcjonowania w chorobie: akceptacji choroby, przekonań na temat lokalizacji kontroli zdrowia i zachowań zdrowotnych. Przebadano razem 204 osoby przewlekle chore, w tym 135 (66%) kobiet i 69 (34%) mężczyzn w średnim wieku 49,56 lat (SD = 13,13). W badaniu zastosowano następujące metody psychologiczne: Skalę DS-14 do oceny osobowości typu D oraz Skalę Akceptacji Choroby (Acceptance of Illness Scale - AIS), Wielowymiarową Skalę Umiejscowienia Kontroli Zdrowia (The Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale - MHLC-B) oraz Inwentarz Zachowań Zdrowotnych - IZZ. Stopień nasilenia cech osobowości D różnicował poziom akceptacji choroby, zachowań zdrowotnych, w szczególności prawidłowych nawyków żywieniowych i pozytywnego nastawienia psychicznego, oraz przekonań dotyczących zewnętrznej lokalizacji kontroli zdrowia - w zdarzeniach przypadkowych. Poziom cech D nie różnicował zachowań profilaktycznych i praktyk zdrowotnych oraz dwóch pozostałych przekonań na temat lokalizacji kontroli zdrowia - w sobie iw innych osobach. Generalnie występowanie cech osobowości typu D utrudnia adaptacyjne funkcjonowanie w chorobie osobom chorym przewlekle.

Last time we have noticed still more studies confirming the relation between emotional intelligence and various aspects of human behavior. Professional soldiers are a group which includes primarily commanders of various levels. Commanding need not only special kind of military knowledge, but suitable social skills as well. Goal of the study: Does and how the emotional intelligence influence the types of behavior and experience connected with occupational stress among the professional soldiers? The research was conducted using two questionnaires: INTE Questionnaire describing the emotional intelligence and AVEM Questionnaire describing four types of behavior and experience connected with job. The sample consisted of 141 professional soldiers. The results show the correlation between emotional intelligence and the types of behavior and experience connected with job in the group of professional soldiers: higher level of emotional intelligence is connected with the healthy behavior – Type G, but lower level of emotional intelligence is connected with the burnt-out behavior – Type B.
