Vibronic spectra of Gd^{3+} in Cs_{2}NaGdCl_{6} were measured under one- and two-photon excitations. Following the vibrational analysis of the Cs_{2}NaGdCl_{6} crystal an assignment of vibronic transitions was proposed. It was found that the vibronic transitions in one- and two-photon spectra are combined with the odd parity modes.

Electron absorption and emission spectra of Eu^{3+} ion in stoichiometric KEu(WO_{4})_{2} were measured at the temperature range 15-300 K. The oscillator strengths of f-f transitions and the Judd-Ofelt parameters were evaluated. The assignment of vibronic transitions is given and mechanism of emission decay is discussed.

IR, Raman, electron absorption and emission spectra of KEu(MoO_{4})_{2} crystal were measured at the temperature range 8-300 K. The oscillator strengths of f-f transitions were evaluated.

In this work we report both experimental and theoretical studies regarding the Cs_2NaTmCl_6 elpasolite-type system, for which we have an updated database from linear and nonlinear optics. Both the absorption and the emission spectra for this system are rather complicated and a generalized vibronic crystal field-closure-ligand polarization calculation model has been employed to rationalize the observed spectral intensities. The calculation has been carried out by neglecting the interaction among the internal and the external vibrations and theoretical calculations have been performed with reference to both the emissions ^3H_4(Γ_i)>^3F_4(Γ_j) and the absorptions ^3H_6(A_1)> ^3F_4(Γ_i), ^1G_4(Γ_i), ^3H_5(Γ_l) withΓ_k (k=i,j)=A_1,E,T_1,T_2 andΓ_l=E, ^aT_1, ^bT_1,T_2. The advantages and disadvantages of our model calculation are discussed in the text, and despite the simplicity of the model it is shown that it has got some utility and flexibility to gain understanding in these complex phenomena.

The optical excitation and emission spectra of Eu(III) in [Eu_{x}La_{1-x}(AP)_{6}](ClO_{4})_{3} centrosymmetric complex were measured. The vibronic transitions were observed in excitation and emission spectra. Following the vibrational analysis' of the infrared and Raman spectra of [Pr_{x}La_{1-x}(AP)_{6}](ClO_{4})_{3}, the assignment of [Eu_{x}La_{1-x}(AP)_{6}](ClO_{4})_{3} vibronics was given The concentration effect on excitation and emission spectra was investigated. It was found that the vibronic intensities were changed upon the concentration effect. The intensive charge transfer bands were observed in blue region. Their intensities decreased with increasing concentration.

The effect of stereoselectivity on energy transfer between Tb(III) and Eu(III) in crystals with glutamic acid and alanine was investigated. It was found that the stereoselectivity significantly changes the energy transfer in these systems. The theoretical model for the selective dependent energy transfer processes in lanthanide systems is developed and the nature of processes occurring in both systems under investigation briefly discussed.

We report explicit vibronic intensity calculations for the |^4S_{3/2}Γ_8> → |^4I_{15/2}Γ>excitations in the Cs_2NaErCl_6 elpasolite-type systems, based upon new and updated experimental data, obtained from optical absorption measurements made at 10 K, in the energy range from 6,000 up to 26,000 cm^{-1}. Our calculation model is a generalization of the vibronic crystal field-ligand polarization method and the calculation is performed using a minimum set of adjustable parameters - all and each of them have a clear physical meaning. Our strategy was chosen so as to make a significant distinction with previous calculations, performed by other authors, who have worked out a model originated from a supra-parameterized scheme, within the framework of the superposition model of Newman. Throughout the course of the current work, it is shown that our model is suitable to handle this kind of calculations and also that the numerical results obtained are in fairly good agreement with experiment.

Silica sol-gel glasses doped with Eu^{3+} ions were obtained by different preparation techniques. The absorption, emission and excitation spectra of the obtained glasses were measured in the range of 77-300 K. The energy level diagrams of Eu^{3+} ions were derived. An intensity analysis of f-f transitions was performed. In particular, polymeric structure behaviour of europium compounds entrapped in silica gels glasses was temperature controlled during the preparation of glasses. Their optical properties were investigated.

The purpose of this work was identification of luminescent lines occurring in natural carbonate-fluor-apatite (francolite) mineral. For identification of several rare earth ions occurring in natural francolite, the luminescence of rare earth ions was extensively studied in artificial mineral consisting of a pure francolite (not containing rare earth) of the composition Ca_{5}(PO_{4})_{3} (F,O):Ca_{5}(PO_{4})_{3} CO_{3} activated with Pr, Eu and Sm ions and then compared with the luminescence features observed in natural mineral.

Theeffect of freon heat treatment on optical properties of Er-doped silica glasses obtained by the sol-gel method was investigated. It was found that fluorine ions in the process of hydrolysis replace hydroxyl ions in the host and form the complexes with Er^{3+} ions. It leads to a significant improvement of optical properties of Er doped silica glass.

In this paper we present a utilization of anti-Stokes luminescence of Er-Yb systems for identifications of securities. A simple method of detection of an up-conversion phenomenon in such system by means of IR laser operating in the region 960-1010 nm is proposed.

The luminescence characteristics of Eu^{3+} ions in Eu(NO_{3})_{3}·6H_{2}O salt contained in polymer films coating the silver metallic surfaces were studied. The surfaces were specially prepared to consist of silver tip arrays with the height of tips in micron and surface density in 10^{-8} cm^{-2} ranges. The evaluation of enhancement per one europium ion gave a value 3.5 10^{2} for one polymer layer coating of tip array silver surface in comparison with the case of glass substrate coating.
