Epiretinal membranes occur in population over 50 years old. Optical coherence tomography has become a useful tool in diagnosis of this condition. Pars plana vitrectomy is a standard procedure in treatment of epiretinal membranes. The aim of this article is to present a current state of knowledge about surgical treatment and its complications.
