Choroba zwyrodnieniowa - osteoartroza (OA) jest najczęstszą chorobą stawów i najczęstszą przyczyną niesprawności w wieku podeszłym, a wraz ze wzrostem długości życia rośnie częstość jej występowania. Przebieg choroby jest powoli postępujący a dominującym objawem jest ból. Nie istnieje obecnie metoda terapeutyczna skutecznie hamująca progresję zmian strukturalnych. Celem leczenia jest przede wszystkim zmniejszenie bólu, towarzyszącej sztywności stawów, zmniejszenie niesprawności. Optymalne postępowanie w chorobie zwyrodnieniowej stawów wymaga łącznego stosowania różnych metod terapeutycznych.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common joint disorder and the main cause of disability in the elderly. As the average age of the population increases, the prevalence continues to rise. The course of the disease is slowly progressive, and the predominant symptom is pain. Currently, no therapeutic strategies have been proven to inhibit the progression of structural changes. The primary goal of treatment is reduction of pain, co-existing stiffness and disability. Optimal management of osteoarthritis requires the combined application of different therapeutic.
