Pelvic and perineal pain in women is a much more common disease than it is commonly belived. Characteristic features of a pelvic pain syndrome are: over six months duration of symptoms, significantly reduced daily and professional activity, symptoms of depression and inefficient pain therapy. Pain distress among women with a pelvic pain syndrome may be associated with the sexual, digestive, urinary, musculoskeletal or vascular systems. This work comprises a review of contemporary knowledge and the latest guidelines for the tretment of pelvic and perineal pain syndrome.
