W pracy poddano analizie przypadki trzech pacjentów leczonych w Regionalnym Ośrodku Ostrych Zatruć w Sosnowcu z powodu podjętych prób samobójczych, wynikających z odmiennych, lecz charakterystycznych przyczyn. U podłoża podjętych prób suicydalnych leżały: w pierwszym przypadku przyczyny bytowe, w drugim zespół zależności alkoholowej, a w trzecim zaburzenia psychiczne. Źródłem informacji dotyczących przyczyn podjętych prób suicydalnych były dane anamnestyczne uzyskane przez lekarzy klinicystów uzupełnione przez konsultację psychiatryczną. Dodatkowo autorzy zastosowali opracowany przez nich „strukturalizowany, pogłębiony wywiad psychiatryczny i psychologiczny” oraz sformułowali tzw. ciąg niekorzystnych przemian i wydarzeń, które prowadziły do podjęcia próby samobójczej. Zaproponowali także sumaryczną ilustrację graficzną danych uzyskanych od prezentowanych pacjentów. Autorzy dyskutują – na tle uzyskanych od pacjentów danych – czy istnieją obecnie wydolny aparat pojęciowy i efektywna teoria kompleksowo wyjaśniające proces załamania się motywacji do życia i przemianę psychiczną, prowadzące do podjęcia próby samobójczej.

The authors present detailed case studies of three patients treated at the Regional Poison Control Center in Sosnowiec due to a suicide attempt for different, but characteristic types of reasons. The first of these patients attempted suicide by reason of existential problems, the second one – alcoholism, and the third of the patients suffered from mental disorders. The source of information concerning the causes of the suicide attempts was data from the patients’ histories gained by toxicologists supplemented by psychiatric examination. Additionally, the authors applied their own indepth, structured, psychiatric and psychological interview and formulated the so-called sequence of adverse events which led to the suicide attempt. They also suggested a graphical summary illustrating the data obtained from patients. The authors discuss – on the background of these case reports – how far today an effective theory exists, which would be able to completely explain the process of collapse of the motivation for life and the mental transformation, manifested by an attempt of suicide.
