Jedną z głównych przyczyn obniżenia ostrości wzroku w krajach wysoko rozwiniętych jest zakrzep żyły środkowej siatkówki oka. Mimo wielu metod leczenia powikłań tej jednostki chorobowej w przeszłości, obecnie jedynie kilka jest powszechnie stosowanych. W randomizowanych, wieloośrodkowych badaniach klinicznych potwierdzono skuteczność m.in.: leków anty-VEGF (VEGF, vascular endothelial growth factor), glikokortykosteroidoterapii oraz laseroterapii. W ciągu ostatnich kilku lat to leki anty-VEGF wydają się terapią pierwszego rzutu w leczeniu zakrzepu.

Retinal vein occlusion is one of the main reasons of low visual acuity in high-developed countries. There was a lot of methods of treatment of the disease in the past, nevertheless, nowadays only a few are commonly used. In randomized, multi-centered research anti-VEGF treatment, steroid and laser photocoagulation effectiveness were proven. Anti-VEGF therapy seems to be the first choice drug in the last few years.
