The main objective of the study was to analyse the influence of socio-demographic factors on the choice of water supply strategies in the undeveloped areas of Koudougou. To this end, a survey was conducted among 335 households in the undeveloped areas of Koudougou. Secondary data were collected through a literature review. The survey data were processed using descriptive statistics and regression using SPSS Statistics 25 software. The results show that in the informal areas of the city of Koudougou, two strategies, namely the private strategy and the community strategy, are promoted by the citizens of these informal areas. The study also revealed that socio-demographic factors such as gender, education level, occupation and household size influence the choice of drinking water supply in the informal settlements of Koudougou. Men have a strong preference for boreholes and hand pumps, while women choose sources closer to home, such as wells and standpipes. Socio-professional category and level of education are also important determinants of the choice of water supply strategies in the informal areas of Koudougou. Except for gender, the same factors influence the choice of private water supply strategies. The results highlight the importance of an integrated approach, taking into account gender and socio-demographic factors, to ensure equitable water supply adapted to the needs of the population in the informal areas.
