Herein we present a case of port site metastasis a year after a laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic gallstones. We discuss the vital need of retrieval bags during cholecystectomies regardless of the indication to prevent cell dissemination and review the literature. This case study provides a means for amending the guidelines for future cholecystectomies with compulsory usage of protective bags, regardless of the histopathological biopsy results to prevent any potential risk for port site metastases.
