Introduction: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies in general population. Surgery is the treatment of choice, although it is associated with a number of complications, including a leak of intestinal anastomosis.
Case report: A 70-year-old patient with sigmoid cancer, after VATS right upper lobectomy, with a metastatic lesion in the left lung, with numerous cardiac and extracardiac comorbidities, was referred for sigmoidectomy. Resection of sigmoid colon was performed with subsequent primary restoration of gastrointestinal continuity; the anastomosis site was additionally covered with the TachoSil matrix. Postoperative course was uncomplicated despite the patient being at high risk of postoperative complications. The collagen-fibrinogen matrix, TachoSil, can be used with good effect as a reinforcement and substrate to facilitate proper healing of intestinal anastomosis.
