Karyotypes of five <Bromus species> of Genea section Bromus fasciculatus, B.sterilis, B.tectorum, B.madritensis and B.rubens were examined to determine relations between them. The absolute and relative <chromosome lengths> as well as the centromere index, were analysed. Idiograms of the investigated species were presented. A comparison of the species in their chromosome features revealed significant differences between diploids (B.fasciculatus, B.sterilis and B.tectorum) and similarity between tetraploids (B.madritensis and B.rubens). It also appeared that diploid B.tectorum is similar to tetraploid species, which may be indicative of the genome affinity between these three species.
