Background This editorial is an instructive guide on how to write and publish a scientific paper. It was inspired by a lecture given at the Medical University of Gdańsk by a distinguished professor. To further advance science, particularly in the currently emerging era of individualized medicine, the collaboration of researchers with a varied level of experience, and from different areas of expertise is needed. It is vital to publish the results of research quickly and effectively.
