Badania jezior i płytkich zbiorników w oazie Thala Hills (Wschodnia Antarktyda) prowadziliśmy 45 lat temu. Temperatura wody podczas zimy i lata bardzo zmienia się. Podczas zamarzania zbiorników ciśnienie i zawartość tlenu w wodzie wzrasta. Odpływ wody z jeziora Glubokoje ma charakter katastroficzny. Jeziora i płytsze zbiorniki wodne w przybrzeżnej oazie Thala Hills wykazują wiele podobieństw do warunków panujących w podlodowych jeziorach kontynentalnych Antarktydy odkrytych w ciągu ostatnich 20 lat badań.

Studies were conducted in the lake and ponds of Thala Hills oazis (East Antarctic) 45 years ago. Large changes in the temperature of water during winter and summer months were observed. Freezing of ponds was accompanied by an increase in the oxygen pressure and content of water. Out flow of water from the lake Glubokoje had catastrophic character. It has been concluded that the Thala Hills oasis lake and shallow ponds exhibit similar conditions to that of continental Antarctic lakes discovered under ice during last 20 years.
