The article tries to show that human intellectual abilities are quite different from the ones promoted by schools, universities, and... common sense. The name of our species, Homo sapiens, is given in a little bit of advance. Our thinking is imperfect (to say the least), our language - clumsy, our memory - selective, and our decision-making - automatic. We are not as wonderful as we have thought so far, even when we spend our money. Several examples are provided to illustrate this point. The article concludes with a possible explanations why irrationality of humans may serve an adaptive role in our every-day life.
