The review outlines shortly some advanced research and development projects presented during two international conferences: (1) "Ecological impact of genetically modified organisms (EIGMO)" of the working group GMOs in Integrated Plant Production, International Organization of Biological Control, 23-25 May 2007, Warsaw, Poland and (2) Scientific Colloquium 8 "Environmental risk assessment of genetically modified plants - challenges and approaches" of European Food Safety Authority, 20-21 June 2007, Tabiano, Italy, on ERA and monitoring after GM plants are released to environment. Special attention is given to studies on the effect of GMO on pest natural enemies, as non-target organisms. Proposed tier approach is described in some details.
