Summary The role of weeds in maintaining biodiversity in agrocenosis is discussed. The British research program carried out on the Farm Scale Evaluations of genetically modified herbicide-tolerant crops is described. Effects of the introduction of genetically modified crops into Polish agriculture and their possible effect on biodiversity is discussed.
