Summary Among the sudetic national parks, the most important are the Karkonosze Mts. Park, and the Góry Stołowe Mts. Park. The first is of magma origin, and was created by felsic magma about 300 My ago. The Góry Stołowe Mts. Park is built of shallow water sand deposits, which were dated by petrified shells as Upper Cretaceous. There are many detailed problems concerning the origin of Karkonosze Mts. In this paper only the features of their vertical and horizontal movements are discussed. The Góry Stołowe Mts. Park can be treated as a great sandwich structure. The sandstone makes cliffs, the marles from the plateaux. Numerous sedimentological structures, typical for shallow water environment, are preserved in the sandstone. Recent precise survey measurements show that, in the Sudetes Mts. differentiated movements take place. They are mainly caused by anthropopression, e.g. explosions in quarries during mining, and water pressure in the local water dams.
