The mechanism of the anti-Stokes photoluminescence in ZnSe:Cr is discussed. It is shown that the two-step ionization transitions of Cr(2^{+} ↔ 1^{+}) result in appearance of the blue anti-Stokes photoluminescence of ZnSe:Cr. There are also some indications that the Auger type co-operative process can contribute to the photoluminescence excitation.
