Some fundamental properties of synchrotron radiation and electron beam characteristics in synchrotron radiation storage rings are recapitulated. Then, different design criteria for the construction of synchrotron radiation facilities are discussed as well as some technical solutions to the problem of matching the light and electron beam properties.
